A favorite smoothie tweaked for you all! Blueberry Basil has always been a favorite, now and for a long time on my past blog Sweet Roots. Here, I used lovely purple basil from Gregerson Family Farms. Purple basil is very similar to the green basil we all know and love. It may be a little more headier or perfumier but the taste is very similar. Purple basil’s color is ever so stunning!
Basil is a major anti-inflammatory. It contains powerful essential oils like eugenol that fight inflammation. In fact, a friend started serving this recipe to her family and it helped her husband’s chronic pain! It helps freshen breath and restores the body’s proper ph. Basil improves digestion and aids gut flora. It is also a powerful antibacterial and antiviral.
It’s also vibrantly tasty! Basil adds a slight licorice note to foods which in itself is a boon. In addition with the blueberries, it makes this smoothie very refreshing.
Blueberry Basil Smoothie
2 cups frozen blueberries
1 1/4 cup unsweetened almond milk (vanilla is good! Or use coconut water for replenishing electrolytes)
2 large handfuls baby kale or other greens
Several sprigs of basil (the more the merrier to me)
1 cup grapes (optional)
Almond Butter (large scoop adds protein and a richness) or a scoop of Collagen
Makes 2 large servings or 4 smaller.
Blend everything together and enjoy!
